MINISTER of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi was reluctant to reveal the initials T who is suspected of controlling the online gambling business in Indonesia. He instead joked that the figure was the aide to the Minister of Defense (Menhan) Prabowo Subianto, Major Teddy.
“There are a lot of (initials) T, why not Mayor Teddy?” said Budi at the Kominfo Building, Central Jakarta, Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Budi denied the initial T mentioned by the Head of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) Benny Rhamdani was Tommy Soeharto. He asked the media crew to ask Benny directly.
“If you ask about initials, ask the person who made the initials, don’t ask us,” he explained.
In addition, Budi emphasized that the area of law enforcement related to judol is the authority of the police. He is only responsible for preventive measures.
“Our task is how to prevent online gambling from becoming a game or something used by the community. I am the daily head of the prevention division,” he stressed.
Previously, Head of BP2MI Benny Rhamdani admitted that he had reported the figure with the initials T who is suspected of controlling the online gambling business in Indonesia to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). He conveyed this in a limited meeting (ratas) at the State Palace.
“You can ask the Minister at that time, Mr. Mahfud MD. The President was shocked, Mr. Police Chief was shocked, there was quite a lot of excitement at the limited meeting at that time,” said Benny. (Z-7)
