The Milky Way demystified in conference

A conference on the Milky Way will be given by the Charlevoix Astronomy Club at the Laure-Conan Library in La Malbaie on February 28 at 7 p.m.

“Who, in Charlevoix, has not seen the Milky Way in the sky on a beautiful summer evening? It is a band of vaporous light that crosses the sky from one horizon to the other. We can see it all year round, but it is not always so well placed for observation,” explains Hugues Lacombe, president of the Astronomy Club.

The Milky Way is actually a large galaxy where our Sun is located, which circles it every 225 million years. “The Milky Way is our village in the Universe, in a way. This is where we live,” continues Mr. Lacombe.

During this conference, the popularizer will address a multitude of questions: How old is the Milky Way? How is it structured? What is it made of? Where is our Sun in this and where is it located in the Universe?

This conference is offered free of charge by the Laure-Conan Library and the Charlevoix Astronomy Club.
