The mileage scale will not be increased this year

Disappointment for the taxpayer: the mileage scale, used to deduct actual expenses in the income tax return, remains unchanged for the year 2024. Unlike previous years where revaluations were observed, 5.4% in 2023, and 10%. in 2022, this year, the government has chosen to freeze the scale, according to information from Capital.

This announcement comes in a context of tensions for public finances. Last February, Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, revealed “immediate” savings of 10 billion euros on state spending to meet budgetary ambitions.

Inflation still high

The opening of online income declarations will begin on April 11. To complete it, the taxpayer must make a choice regarding their business travel in order to deduct them from their taxes. Two options are available to him. The first: opt for the automatic standard deduction of 10%. Or declare actual expenses based on a mileage scale. For employees who opt for the latter option, the freezing of the scale therefore represents a significant financial loss even though inflation has reached 4.9% in France for the year 2023, according to INSEE.

The declaration of actual costs still requires justification of the expenses incurred, in accordance with the criteria established by the tax administration, indicates the Ministry of the Economy. These expenses must be necessitated by salary activity and justified by documents such as invoices or receipts. To facilitate this process, a scale of mileage costs is therefore made available to taxpayers, taking into account various elements such as the depreciation of the vehicle, repair and maintenance costs, the type of vehicle and of course fuel expenses. .
