– On Monday morning, locally very strong gusts of 38–43 meters per second are expected, first from the south, later from the southwest, and up to a strong storm of 30 meters per second, there may be a hurricane of 33 meters per second on the coast, writes the Meteorological Institute in the hazard warning on the weather service Yr.no.
According to meteorologists, the strongest winds are expected on the coast and in the mountains.
– The wind will gradually decrease on Monday afternoon, first in the south, says the institute.
Strong wind in several places
It will also be very windy in Møre and Romsdal, in Trøndelag and inland on Monday. For parts of Vestland, Innlandet, Møre og Romsdal and Sør-Trøndelag, a yellow danger warning has been issued for locally strong wind gusts of 30-35 meters per second in outer areas and in the mountains. The wind comes first from the south, then from the southwest.
In inland areas there are strong gusts of between 27 and 30 meters per second, and inland between 19 and 22 meters per second. Over the course of the afternoon, the wind is expected to decrease, first from the south.
In outer areas of Trøndelag, a yellow danger warning has been sent for strong wind gusts of 27–33 meters per second from the southwest. Here, too, the wind will probably decrease in the afternoon, first in the south.
Consequences and measures
As usual, the institute makes a number of recommendations on what can be done to minimize the risk of injury. This involves, among other things, securing all loose objects, closing windows and doors tightly, ensuring that gutters, scaffolding, aerials and tarpaulins are securely fastened and avoiding traffic in exposed areas.
People are also asked to consider whether it is necessary to set out on a journey, and to calculate extra time for transport and driving. When staying in the beach zone and on the lake, you are encouraged to be careful.
– Objects can be taken by the wind or blown over, it is expected that there will be canceled departures for ferries, planes or other transport, bridges may be closed and many journeys may have longer journey times, the meteorologists write about the possible consequences of the storm.
At the same time, the strong gusts of wind can also cause damage to infrastructure: Power can be lost if trees break or come into contact with the power grid. In addition, roads may be closed due to trees or other objects in the roadway.
