The counters have ticked. And they shot for a long time: 33 minutes, to be precise. That’s how long it took Mark Zuckerberg, director of Meta, to bring up the word “metaverse.” On Wednesday evening, the multinational, which notably owns Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, organized Meta Connect, its major annual event. Two years ago, Mark Zuckerberg hammered home the imminent arrival of this virtual world, into which everyone would rush. In 2023, it took forever before he uttered the word “metaverse”, while presenting new connected devices. Like what Apple will offer in 2024 with its Vision Pro headset, the future now seems to take shape with mixed reality, mixing virtual and real worlds.
It was therefore following having mentioned his interest in cage fighting (a priori without Elon Musk facing him), avatars inspired by Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton, and the transformation of a dog into origami that Mark Zuckerberg spoke of the metaverse. “We’re also working on bringing all of this into the metaverse […] where these AI will be embodied in the form of avatars. You will be able to make them characters in the different games and experiences that you will build in the different Horizon Worlds, and I think it will be really great,” said the director of Meta. Mark Zuckerberg has never stopped talking regarding artificial intelligence (AI), which will be infused into all the multinational’s services. And all of this must be reflected in the company’s famous Horizon Worlds.
