It is a huge project that the hospital of Albi has decided to carry out, to improve the reception of patients and to give a facelift and modernity to the buildings. A calendar that extends until 2024 for a budget of 21 million euros. The work launched in 2022 is on schedule. At the end of February, the new consultation platform, which will be behind the entrance to Place Lapérouse, will open its doors. “The primary objective is to streamline flows. That the patient is welcomed as soon as possible, does not feel lost. Remember that our hospital is 120,000 consultations per year. We had to modernize the site. It was essential to progress, ”sums up the director of the hospital center, Alexandre Fritsch.

By visiting the site, the result is up to par. Bright and functional entrance hall. Spacious boxes to accommodate patients. The schedule is getting clearer. “On February 24, orthopedic consultations will be open in these new buildings. On March 13, it will be around Oncology. On the 17th, the dermato. There will also be two new bouldering rooms,” says Pierre Wauthier, engineer in charge of technical services.
“The objective is to have two separate platforms. One for consultation and one for hospitalization” adds the director.
It also announces something new. “The hospital is opening a unit for blood tests, including a specific box reserved for children. We can come with the doctor’s prescription, without an appointment. »
The two stages above are also completely renovated and extended. In the maternity ward, the workers are in the process of completing “two so-called “kangaroo” rooms, which will make it possible to accommodate the mother and her premature child in the same room. Which was not the case before, ”supports deputy director Philippe Orgebin.
The dynamism of the hospital
“It’s really an important step for us,” adds the director. However, the problem of the reduced space of a hospital in the city center arises. ” It’s true. You have to be imaginative to expand, especially since we are in a protected area, where it is impossible to build in height. But we are getting there. You know, it’s a chance for the Albigensians and the staff to have such a structure in the city and not outside, ”he smiles. Alexandre Fritsch likes to recall that Albi is one of the three “extremely dynamic” hospitals in Occitania. We have increased the number of pre-Covid acts, which is not the case for many hospitals, even if there are no more patients. The population trusts us for the quality of care. Who says more patients means more hiring of nursing staff? “We work on it daily. And you should know that 70% of our training is dedicated to professional promotion. Meanwhile, the workers are working to complete this metamorphosis which will continue until 2024 with the creation of a new emergency center and the creation of 51 parking spaces.
