– The Melvins, forty years of saturation dumped on the Factory
Tuesday, we washed our ears listening to the breathtaking American trio founded in 1983, the same year as the beginnings of the PTR association, which welcomed them that evening.

When the Factory fills up, rock’n’roll sweats profusely. This Tuesday evening, The Melvins play the Beatles, “I Want to Hold You Hand”, guitar, bass, drums version, almost the original orchestration, almost the same tempo. Except that the group at the maneuver on the stage of the PTR association is one of the undisputed masters of big sound.
It’s very hot. Roger Osborne, alias King Buzzo, 59, singer and leader of the trio, wears his long closed coat high on his neck, offering the hair-raising spectacle of a sweating hussar. His hairstyle resembles, from afar, the hair of Michel Polnareff when he was young, but more airy. A crown of firecracker locks is her emblem.
The Beatles Revisited
The public is rather old, or not very young. The music is aggressive. And it is very beautiful. Wild, we would say. Heavy like the bad wind beating the horns of the amazed herd, exciting like a big fire engine, maybe even a tank, which would crush cans still full. In which case, it’s “pritch”, very strong. “Broutch”, in short.
How good it is to listen to The Melvins in concert. The trio is celebrating its forty years of existence, like PTR for that matter. Founded in 1983, for a time housed in Aberdeen in the parental home of drummer Dale Crover, the group had for neighbor Kurt Cobain, still idle this one. Moreover, Dale Crover played with the future Nirvana, in a first teenage group, Fecal Matter. All the poetry of a youth discovering the commercial pop of MTV, newly created, but preferring to rush into the stretchers.

In the past, The Melvins foreshadowed the explosion of grunge, without however having drawn the same popularity from it as others following them. The Melvins remain a niche band, but a cult band. It was necessary to see, the other day in Geneva, this crowd completely acquired, the room not far from being full.
The Melvins know how to do everything, it’s their trademark. Doom, sludge, thrash, metal, hardcore, hard rock, pop too. We marvel, we shudder in front of such know-how. Above all, we sweat like King Buzzo, communion of the skin as much as the ears.
