The announcement – call of the Union of Doctors of Hospitals of Achaia states the following:
On Monday, 19/2/2024, a meeting of the members of the Board of Directors of EINA took place with the Governor of 6her Ministry of Health. A memorandum was submitted with the total claims of the Doctors of the ESY (attached). The following major topics were discussed:
- The continuation of the movement of doctors between Hospitals of 6herMinistry of Health. Specific movements of Pathologists from the General Hospital “St. Andreas” and the PGNP to the Pyrgos and Aegio Hospitals, General Practitioners from the Akrata General Hospital to the Aigio Hospital, Oncologists from the PGNP to the “St. Andreas” PG, Paediatricians to G.N. Zakynthos, Anesthesiologists from the Patras General Hospital to Karamandanio, Biopathologists from KY and GN of Patras in Karamandanio. The Controller’s response was that as long as there are still gaps, the movements will continue.
- It was requested the immediate announcement of all the vacant organizational positions of the Hospitals, the modifications of the organizations to meet the increased needs as well as the announcement of the vacant positions of the GNPyrgos Pathology Clinic as “barren”. The Governor committed only to announce 2 permanent positions of Oncologist (one for GNPatron and one for PGNP) as well as one position of Pathologist in GNAigiu. He also informed that he will request the announcement of the positions of G.N. Pyrgos as “barren”. As for the other staff, he emphasized that 4 positions of permanent and 4 auxiliary staff positions of Radiologist Technologists for the PGNP will be announced.
- The immediate re-opening of all the closed operating theaters of the prefecture (7/22 for Rio, “St. Andreas” and Aigio Hospitals) with the recruitment of Anesthesiologists and the required Nursing staff was requested. There was no commitment on the part of the Governor who moved on the ministry’s rota with the looming operation of the followingnoon surgeries.
- Immediate solution of the zoning issue of G.N. “St. Andreas” with the aim of the full operation of all the planned organic beds. There was no clear timetable nor intention for the implementation of the building upgrade on the part of the Governor.
- Sufficient staffing of the PGNP’s CTHX Clinic so that there is a possibility for daily on-call coverage.
- Plan to create an Oncology Center to serve the population of oncology patients in dignified conditions.
- Reopening of closed hospitals>and 409 as public health facilities.
There was no commitment on the part of 6her Ministry of Health regarding the last three issues, with the commander – referring to the closed public structures – once once more using the well-known pretexts such as that of the military endowment for the 409 (which did not prevent the assignment to a private person, of course) and the cost for the re-opening of Chest Diseases, at a time when dozens of tax breaks are being given to shipowners and banks, who are spending exorbitant amounts of money on NATO equipment. Finally, the reopening of the Pacemaker Center of GNPatron until the end of the month was confirmed, following the immediate mobilization of EINA together with the hospital workers’ union, the Three-Member Committee of Doctors of GNPatron, unions and the Labor Center of Patras.
The consequences will be tragic for the doctors themselves, who are forced to work under conditions of impoverishment and cut wages, as can be seen from the ongoing resignations recently. of Mediterranean Anemia and the one for the rescue of the Karamandan hospital show the way, that of rallying with the workers’ unions, the patient’s associations and requests to strengthen the health system with a brave increase in funding, the permanent recruitment of staff.
We continue the claims and the fight for Free Public Health and for decent working conditions!
