According to a recent study, people with multiple sclerosis and who follow a Mediterranean diet may see their risk of deficiency memory and cognitive decline reduced. “Cognitive disorders are very common in multiple sclerosis and they worsen over time, even with disease-modifying treatments “, indicates the main author of the study. This work, involving nearly 600 people with multiple sclerosis, allowed the researchers to observe that those who followed the Mediterranean diet more closely had a 20% lower risk of cognitive impairment compared to those who did not follow this diet. The researchers note, however, that these results call for further studies to assess the role of diet in maintaining cognitive function.
