The activities of the first session of the Moulay Idriss Choucira League, organized by the Old Friends of Souss Football Association, in cooperation with the Agadir community, concluded yesterday evening, Monday, in Agadir.
Eight teams participated in this Ramadan league, divided into two groups, of which the first and second qualified for the semi-finals. The final match brought together the two Medi-Sport teams, which represent the health sector, with the ancient team, Friends of Souss, and the result was a draw with two goals for each team, with the doctors’ team winning the league championship on penalties.
The tournament was held on the artificial turf of the Al-Qarb Stadium in Bouarkan, and its events were followed by an audience composed mostly of old players in Agadir, who came to honor with their presence the celebrated Moulay Idriss Choucira, who followed almost all the league matches despite his health conditions. The influx of some civil society activities, including associations and artists, was also recorded. .
It must be pointed out here that this Ramadan football forum had a good response among the local sports circles, and there was praise for the great work of the former player Mohamed Al-Shaddakh, the president of the Association of Ancient Friends of Souss, the one who came up with the idea and the actual supervisor of all the details of this football league, the first edition of which was a success as everyone testified.
It is a football league that may seem ordinary like other leagues that abound in all Moroccan stadiums during the month of Ramadan, but the idea that the tournament is named following a player who gave a lot to local and national football while he is still alive and even travels to the stadium to follow the matches can only be praised. It is a step that is taken into account by Mr. Al-Shaddakh and his work team, given that celebrating an athlete and giving his name to the league has more than one message. It is enough to stand in the heat of the meeting that brought Shaqira together with all the old players and managers who came to the stadium, and to renew contact with them following a long absence.
Meetings during which everyone remembered the contributions of Moulay Idriss Shaqira when he was arriving and touring Moroccan stadiums from the mid-sixties of the last century, whether with the teams of Inezgane, Hassania Agadir, the Royal Army, and the Khemisset Union, and his effective contribution in the field of supervision when he was supervising the training of Hassania and Raja Akadir.
