The District, through the Solidarity Line of the Medellín Zero Hunger Alliance, reinforces its commitment to rural areas by delivering 662 food vouchers to vulnerable families in the five towns. This has been possible thanks to monetary donations made by companies, foundations and citizens in general.
With the voucher, each family accesses a food package of 16 semi-perishable basic products, such as rice, beans, whole milk, powdered milk, tuna, eggs, oats, flour and spaghetti, among others.
“After starting the whole process in some of the communes, we continue with our townships. 662 family units are benefiting from this great alliance, thanks to the support of companies, families in general and social organizations, who believe in this municipal administration and the mayor, where we are firm for the well-being of Medellín. Reaching the townships is another opportunity we have as a district to continue growing,” said the Secretary of Social Inclusion and Family, Sandra Sánchez.
Each family group can exchange the voucher at supermarkets and allied neighborhood stores. This ensures access to essential foods and supports the local economy in each of the towns where they are redeemed.
“I am very grateful to the Zero Hunger Alliance. Right now, we need it because we are a family of four: me, my husband and my two children. Now, only one son is working because my husband is sick, I am sick and I have an unemployed son. This is a very great financial aid, it allows us to save a little money to pay for rent, services and food,” mentioned Marta Isabel Galán Pérez, beneficiary of the San Antonio de Prado district.

To date, the Medellín Zero Hunger Alliance has raised $1,532 million, making it possible to deliver 1,314 vouchers to families in the District in urban and rural areas. In total, this contribution represents 101 tons of food.
The goal is to extend aid to 72,000 families next year and, therefore, the purpose is to continue strengthening the impact in the sectors that need it most, which requires a combined effort through donations from allies so that the Solidarity reaches every corner of Medellín.
