Just 12 years ago, on December 13, 6 people lost their lives in the heart of Liège. The shooting perpetrated at Place Saint-Lambert left more than 125 people injured. Today the families of the victims continue a long and painful fight to have the Belgian state condemned. Our new series, “The Mechanics of Crime” returns to this file: “So that this doesn’t happen once more”. Among the witnesses met, Dora, a young woman who fights day following day to make sense of this drama.

“Dora, you’re the big one now.”

On December 13, 2011, Dora Belhadj, 10 years old, was in the courtyard of her school, not far from the heart of Liège. The atmosphere is electric. There is talk of a mad shooter who threw grenades and fired into the crowd at Place Saint-Lambert, a busy place. There would be more than 125 injured and people dead…

When Dora’s father arrives late following school, she can’t help but ask him: “Are you okay dad, is everyone okay?” And he replied: “No Dora we have no news from your brother Nathan”.

A few hours later, the tragedy was announced to the Belhadj family. Nathan, 15, is one of the six victims what will a certain Nordine Amrani do that day. Dora’s father confided these terrible words to her: “Your brother has ascended to heaven, you are the big one now.”

Today Dora is 22 years old. She opens up for the first time in a long interview for “The Mechanics of Crime”. She talks regarding anger, sadness, struggle and resilience Also.
