“Unfortunately, we’re bananas when it comes to accuracy”. The sad finding belongs to the president of the voluntary consumer organization EKPOIZO, Panagiota Kalapotharakouwho speaking to “Peloponnisos” and Peloponnisos FM 104.1 yesterday appeared cautious regarding the impact of the government’s latest measures once morest punctuality.

“Through the research carried out by the voluntary organization, it finds that, unfortunately, accuracy in the market holds up well. And although measures have been taken by the government, these have not yielded results. They are ineffective, piecemeal” said Mrs. Kalapotharakou and added: “The third package of measures implemented since March 1st, we are here to see if they will have any effect on our pocket. But what we first see is that, on the one hand, any reductions are small, 5-18%, on the other hand, the categories to which they relate are cleaning, personal care and diapers, which we supply basically once a month, so they are not products immediate need. That is, they do not concern food that goes into the household’s basket every few meters or every week.

Nevertheless, the president of EKPOIZO expressed modest optimism that some of these measures may pay off in the coming months, provided intensive checks are made throughout the supply chain from field to shelf to crack down on profiteering.

“It is not possible that the rice is sold by the producers at 25-40 cents per kilo and we buy it from 3.5-4.5 euros per kilo” said Mrs. Kalapotharakou and also mentioned a series of products, where the prices are for inexplicable reasons very high, such as in fruit and vegetables, olive oil, etc.
