The mayor of Venice (Italy) on Wednesday denounced “two idiots” who were filmed waterskiing on the Grand Canal, offering dinner to anyone who identified them.
Later, following his Twitter call went viral, Luigi Brugnaro announced that the duo had been found and their boards confiscated. He added that they would be treated “as they deserve”.
Here are two overbearing idiots who make a mockery of the City … I ask everyone to help us identify them to punish them even if our weapons are really blunt … we urgently need more powers to the Mayors in terms of public safety!

“Here are two arrogant idiots making fun of our city,” wrote Luigi Brugnaro, posting a video showing two young men on skis pulled by a speedboat on the canal, the Italian city’s most famous waterway. “I offer a dinner to those who will identify them!”
He seemed to admit, however, that there was little he might do to stop the two skiers, saying, “There is an urgent need to give mayors more power over public safety.”
After turning into a ghost town during the period of confinement due to COVID-19, Venice is once once more attracting tourists from all over the world and its canals are, as before the pandemic, bustling with intense boat traffic.
