Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited an apartment building in Sadang-dong, Seoul, where the retaining wall had collapsed due to a landslide as soon as the day dawned.

Residents who had evacuated to the community center in the middle of the night due to an unexpected accident asked Mayor Oh to solve the daily necessities first.

“Grandparents, patients, pregnant women, people on dialysis, you don’t have to go back and forth (at home), sir. Right now, electricity and water are the biggest problems. Electricity and water.”

Residents continue to protest toward Mayor Oh, who hastily left the site.

“Mayor, please do something quickly. I’ve been doing nothing since yesterday, and I haven’t done anything.”

When Mayor Oh visited a residential area in Sillim-dong, where three family members died, residents protested, saying that the delivery of drainage equipment was late.

With five deaths and four missing in Seoul alone, with hundreds of victims, Mayor Oh promised a preemptive response, saying, “As the mayor responsible for the safety of citizens, I am sorry to the victims, their families and citizens.”

However, controversy is being raised as the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s budget for flood prevention and flood control has decreased by 89.6 billion won compared to last year.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that it was a 6% cut at the last city council, which was dominated by the Democratic Party, but the total budget originally submitted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government was also more than 60 billion won less than the previous year’s budget.

“There is no change in the need to continuously and continuously invest the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s subang budget.”

It was pointed out that both the chief and director of the ‘Safety Management Office’ in charge of major disasters were also empty. I did.

When Mayor Oh served as mayor of Seoul 10 years ago, the entire Gwanghwamun and Gangnam Station areas were completely flooded and even the Umyeonsan landslide erupted.

“I deeply apologize for not predicting and not preparing in advance. I will make this year the first year of the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s plan to prevent extreme weather events.”

In the midst of this, at the time of heavy rain damage across Seoul last night, the Mayor of Mapo-gu, Park Gang-soo, was criticized for posting a picture saying, “I am eating stew and jeon on a rainy Monday evening.”
