The mayor of Molenbeek prohibits the arrival of two far-right leaders in his municipality

The mayor of Molenbeek, Catherine Moureaux (PS), had a police order published at the end of the day Thursday aimed at prohibiting the visit of the Belgian and Dutch far-right leaders Filip Dewinter and Geert Wilders announced by them for Friday on the territory of this commune west of the capital. “The event and the gathering planned for May 13 by Messrs. Filip Dewinter and Geert Wilders is prohibited in the territory of Molenbeek-Saint-Jean. Any gathering of people as part of this process, participants, organizers or opponents is prohibited on the territory of the commune…“, indicates this order.

Catherine Moureaux justifies this decision in particular by the result of the risk analysis transmitted to the mayor by the Coordination Body for Threat Analysis (OCAM), by the risk of “serious disturbance to public order” on the territory of the municipality, and by the fact that “the organization of the event risks seriously undermining public peace by its ostensibly provocative character”.
