London – On Friday, London Mayor Sadiq Khan called on British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and US President Joe Biden to use their influence to stop the bloodshed in Gaza.
Khan’s invitation came at an event held in the famous Trafalgar Square in the British capital, which witnessed the establishment of stands to sell food and souvenirs from Islamic countries and introduce their cultures.
Addressing thousands of people gathered in the square, Sadiq Khan, the host of the event, said, “Ramadan this year has been very difficult due to the high costs of living, anti-Muslim (Islamophobia) and devastation in Gaza.”
He pointed out that regarding 34,000 people, including 14,000 children, were killed in Gaza over a period of 6 months.
“We want to release the prisoners and stop the bloodshed,” Khan said. We want a ceasefire. We want to stop selling weapons to Israel. “We say to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and President Joe Biden, use your influence to stop the deaths.”
He pointed out that Trafalgar Square hosted members of many faiths during Eid al-Fitr celebrations, saying: “We do not only tolerate beliefs in this big city, we respect and accept them.”
Khan warned that some parties, which he did not name, would resort to seeking to divide societies.
“They are trying to pit Muslims once morest Jews, and Hindus once morest Sikhs,” he said. Eid in the square is the best vaccine and antidote once morest all this hatred.”
