This is the result of an investigation “conducted for several weeks” by the Avallon gendarmerie research brigade concerning drug trafficking. The mayor (various left) of Avallon (Yonne), Jamilah Habsaoui, was placed in police custody.

A native of Avallon, Jamilah Habsaoui, 46, was elected mayor in March 2021, following having been a municipal councilor since 2014 then first deputy. She is also the delegated regional advisor in charge of rurality for Burgundy-Franche-Comté. Avallon, which has 6,000 inhabitants, is one of the two sub-prefectures of Yonne, included in the Morvan regional natural park.
