The March lunar eclipse. Where will you see it from?

In Colombia, the penumbral lunar eclipse will begin at 11:53 pm on Sunday, March 24 and will reach its maximum penumbra at 2:12 am on Monday, March 25.

On March 25, Colombia and several regions of the world will witness a fascinating astronomical phenomenon: a penumbral lunar eclipse.

This event, which marks the first of the year, can be observed in most countries in the Americas, in the eastern half of Australia, eastern Asia and western parts of Africa and Europe.

The penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through the penumbra, the outer part of the Earth’s shadow.

Unlike total or partial eclipses, this type of eclipse is less noticeable, as only part of the satellite becomes slightly darker and takes on a reddish hue for a few hours.

This astronomical phenomenon coincides with the full Worm Moon, which will be observed in the constellation of Virgo.

According to astronomical portals, the name of this full moon comes from the Native Americans who lived in Canada and the United States, who associated the appearance of earthworms with the beginning of spring.

In Colombia, the lunar eclipse penumbra will begin at 11:53 pm on Sunday, March 24

It will reach its maximum darkness at 2:12 am on Monday, March 25.

The event will conclude at approximately 4:32 am on the same day.

Although some places in the country will have better prospects for viewing the eclipse, it is expected to be visible nationwide for a period of 4 hours and 39 minutes.

This March lunar eclipse will be especially notable, as 95.6% of the Moon will be in the penumbral shadow, ensuring outstanding visibility.

According to NASA, the next partial lunar eclipse is scheduled for September 18, 2024 and will be visible from North America, South America, Europe, Western Asia and Africa. In addition, this event will have an additional surprise: the eclipsed Moon will be a Supermoon.

Colombians are invited to enjoy this unique astronomical spectacle, which offers an exciting opportunity to connect with the cosmos and marvel at the beauty of the universe.
