The manager of the new technology park in Klaipėda: people no longer want to do jobs that robots have to do Business

The “VMG Technics R&D park” opening in Klaipėda, which has a strategic status granted by the state, will provide a strong impetus not only to the industrial companies of Lithuania, but also to the entire region, according to the statement of one of the largest players in the Lithuanian industry, “VMG Grupė”.

Here engineering solutions for robotics, automation, artificial intelligence will be developed for industry leaders in the Baltics, Scandinavia, USA, Japan, Australia and other countries. It will mainly carry out research and experimental development (R&D).

Mantas Leknius, manager of VMG Technics, which will manage this park, in an interview 15min said that although the need for robotization of the industry has been talked about for a long time, the problem is becoming more and more acute.

“For a couple of years there were no big problems with salaries, they were not too high. But this year, what we see, not only in the context of VMG, but also in the context of the whole industry, is that wages are rising and we are not so cheap. Humans are no longer willing to work as much, or willing to do the low-value jobs that robots have to do. Customers are already coming, asking questions, showing interest, making budgets. And not only with us – it is also felt with our direct competitors. Education, some dissemination, benefits, good results will make that breakthrough – although maybe not tomorrow. Companies that will not do this, not this year, but in a year, if not in a year, then in four, will become uncompetitive. Energy, people, wages – we don’t have enough people in Lithuania to be enough everywhere, and we are a country that generates enough added value through industry,” said the interviewer.

However, M. Leknius pointed out that decisions to robotize their production are limited by both costs and the desire to get the “green button” – “I ordered, it arrived, we let it go”.

“I don’t believe in miracles, my team doesn’t believe in miracles either – all companies are different. There are many aspects that can influence the machine itself, so the company itself must have a good understanding of its technological process. If two companies that know their technologies and equipment well come together, their union can create a good thing. Most of the time, everyone in Lithuania wants the idea of the green button – but we create a product that you cannot easily buy on the market. And what does that mean? We all need to create your product and ours together,” said the interviewer.
