The management of the Brașov Regional of CFR Călători proposes the cancellation of almost 30 pairs of trains on the regional range, but also the operation of staffed trains from Sibiu, Teiuș and Ciceu instead of Brașov and Tg Mureș. The cancellation follows the refusal of the locomotive staff to work overtime, it says Railway Club.

Documents consulted by the publication indicate the intention of Regionala Brașov to propose the cancellation of 27 pairs of regional trains, but also of IR 74/75 on the distance Brașov – Simeria – Brașov.
“In order to level the rest of the services following the analysis between the subunits of SRTFC Brașov and SRTFC Cluj respectively, the following changes are proposed:
– train 1734 / 1930 on the Teiuș – Brașov – Teiuș route served by T staff belonging to SELC Teiuș instead of staff belonging to Brașov Depot;
– train 2101 on the Brașov – Sibiu route served by T staff belonging to the Sibiu Depot instead of staff belonging to the Brașov Depot;
– train 1742/1735 on the Teiuș – Brașov – Teiuș route served by T personnel belonging to SELC Teiuș instead of T personnel belonging to Cluj Depot (Teiuș – Sighișoara-Teiuș) and Brașov Depot (Sighișoara – Brașov – Sighișoara);
– train 4522 served by personnel belonging to SELC Ciceu on the Siculeni – Miercurea Ciuc route instead of personnel belonging to SELC Tg. Mures.
In another address, the seriousness of the situation is indicated, and although the right of employees to decide whether or not to work overtime is proclaimed, the veiled threat of layoffs appears.
A “processing” of the video conference held on Tuesday by the management of a depot with the management of CFR Călători mentions that there are no “threats, pressures on the staff” and that the decision to perform overtime “must be taken as everyone considers” and that “it cannot be forced no one to work overtime”.
However, it is stated that it will be determined which trains can be towed and which trains will be cancelled. The cancellation will be permanent and will be followed by the reduction of the subsidy, “then as a consequence the resizing of the SA, V, M, C staff and the reorganization of the SNTFC (the depots will be kept active according to the regional activity carried out)”.
“The issue of the salaries of the janitors is a problem. The problem of lack of locomotives and spare parts is another problem. But the management of CFR CĂLĂTORI is the biggest problem”, comments an employee. He also says that the general director of CFR Călători, Traian Preoteasa, refused to hire mechanics at the company.
The cancellation of trains following the refusal of the locomotive staff to work overtime proves a simple thing, namely that there is a shortage of locomotive drivers and that CFR Călători trains are in circulation only due to the acceptance of the drivers to work overtime.
Sources within the company say that the Bucharest Călători Depot and SELC Basarab exceeded the overtime ceilings set out in art 42.(8) of the CCM in force (maximum 120).
Traian Preoteasa would have requested by Wednesday, July 12, the lists of road locomotive drivers who do not want to give their consent to work overtime in July 2023. He would also have requested that they be given an 8-hour schedule and, by also, to make the proposals for canceling passenger trains of CFR Călători.
