Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old who tried to kill former President Donald Trump last Saturday, also searched for current President Joe Biden and other important figures, the FBI revealed to lawmakers.
In addition to Trump and Biden, searches for Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray were found on his personal computer.
The search history also reveals that he inquired regarding the Democratic National Convention and Trump’s public appearances.
Among those appearances, Trump was scheduled to hold a Saturday rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, 50 miles (80 kilometers) from Crooks’ family home.
On Steam, a gaming platform, Crooks wrote: “July 13th is my big release, stay tuned to see how it plays out.”
Record
This search history is the closest thing so far to an explanation of the motives of Crooks, who was registered as a Republican, that has been discovered almost a week following the assassination attempt.
Other searches reveal concerns regarding his own mental health.
The FBI shared all of these findings on Wednesday in a briefing with congressmen, according to American media such as The New York Times.
Questions
Ever since Crooks tried to kill Trump, shooting him in the ear and was subsequently shot dead by Secret Service snipers, two big unanswered questions have hovered over the United States: how might it happen? and why did it happen?
Crooks made his way to the rooftop closest to the Secret Service security perimeter for Trump’s rally, in full view of several attendees who alerted authorities to his suspicious presence before he might shoot the former president.
The government has acknowledged that it was a “failure” in the security of the Republican candidate for the White House and there are several ongoing investigations to discover how it might have happened.
