His name is Sandor, like Sandor Marai, the great Hungarian writer. He is the narrator’s next door neighbor, and the main character of this novel. He’s the “man who didn’t want to die.” The narrator meets him. They exchange a few words, bond, while maintaining a distance. He is in his sixties, travels all the time for work.
