The man in his 50s, who is originally from Bergen, is known to the police and previously convicted of a number of matters, writes VG.

In 2012, the man threatened a neighbor in a civil neighborly dispute between them. According to the judgment from Hordaland district court, the man said “I’ll kill you and burn down your apartment” following pouring green soap on the victim’s door.

In 2014, the man was stopped by the police on a moped with four bags of amphetamine in his pocket. Later, the police found that he was under the influence of both amphetamine, morphine and codeine, and that he did not have a driving licence.

According to The daily newspaper the man has been convicted of a further three offenses between 2008 and 2022. These relate to violence, theft and drugs.

– Very heavy

On the night of Wednesday, he was charged with the murder of a 60-year-old woman at a campsite in Aremark in Østfold.

Lawyer Anders Frydenberg at Elden Advokatfirma is engaged as legal counsel for the survivors of the murdered woman.

He says in a press release that he has had an initial dialogue with the clients and is awaiting the case’s documents.

– The bereaved are naturally having a very difficult time following the tragic incident on Tuesday evening, says Frydenberg.

Remand

On Wednesday followingnoon, it became known that the accused man will be detained for four weeks. In advance, he had consented to the detention.

After an office transaction, the Søndre Østfold district court decided that the man should be detained until August 7, the ruling states.

He is subject to a ban on letters and visitors as well as partial isolation, with no access to newspapers and broadcasting. It is still unknown how the accused responds to the charges.

His defender Ann Turid Bugge informs NTB that the man will be questioned on Thursday followingnoon.

A relationship with the deceased

It was a little before 6pm on Tuesday that the police received a report of a stabbing at the campsite in Østfold. When the police arrived at the scene, they quickly got control of the suspected perpetrator. They tried to save the woman’s life, without success.

Prosecutor Benedicte Granrud tells Halden Arbeiderblad that a seizure has been made in the case, and that there is a relationship between the accused and the deceased. She does not wish to comment on this further.

She also says that witness interviews and inquiries have been carried out, and that work is being done to gather evidence.
