The majority of Quebecers with diabetes feel isolated

Beyond the physical challenges it imposes on those who suffer from it, type 2 diabetes also has its share of emotional and mental consequences, according to a new survey.

A large majority of Quebecers with diabetes, namely 85%, say they feel isolated because of diabetes, according to a survey conducted by Léger and Abbott Canada between May 9 and May 15, 2022 among 300 Canadians living with type diabetes. 2.

Nearly half of Quebecers who suffer from it avoid talking regarding it to others.

Nearly a third of Quebecers suffering from type 2 diabetes also note the harmful effect of the disease on their mental well-being.

A total of 58% of them say they associate type 2 diabetes with at least one negative emotion, such as frustration, stress or anxiety. They must always have in mind the management of their disease, they recognize.

At the national level, the majority of Canadians with this disease, 82% of them, aspire to better manage it.
