Taiwan media today (10th) quoted news reports that following the mainland announced 10 new measures to optimize epidemic prevention earlier, it is considering a pilot plan related to relaxing land port customs clearance, which may be implemented before the Lunar New Year in 2023. Once implemented, Hong Kong people will go to the mainland or be exempted from quarantine, and only need to undergo 3 days of medical monitoring.

The report quoted two mainland official sources as saying that two days following the local government announced the above-mentioned optimized anti-epidemic measures, Beijing is considering a plan to relax customs clearance between China and Hong Kong, including that Hong Kong people do not need to be quarantined when traveling to the mainland. The news also mentioned that the above planned quota can satisfy most Hong Kong people who expect to go to the Mainland during the Lunar New Year, and there is a high chance that it will start before the Lunar New Year.

The report continued that another official from Shenzhen said that the checkpoint connecting the Hong Kong port is preparing for the relaxation of customs clearance, including checking the immigration system and hardware that have been idle for regarding two years, and will be cleaned and disinfected on a large scale in the next few weeks. Hong Kong people still need “5+3” to go north, that is, 5 days of centralized quarantine and 3 days of home quarantine. The number of appointments is only 2,000 per day.
