Kozhikode> PP Shabir, the main accused in the Kozhikode parallel telephone exchange case, has been arrested. The accused, who was absconding for a year, was caught by the police in Wayanad. Among the four accused in the case, Shabir is one of the two who the police consider to be the masterminds.
The police had earlier issued a look-out notice for the accused. A team led by SI Pavithran stopped the vehicle and arrested Shabir at the Poshuthana-Kurichyarmala road junction in Wayanad on Friday night. Shabir had reached the resort in Poshuthana.
He came to Wayanad changing his name to Shamir. The police issued a look-out notice when the four accused, including him, had been absconding for almost a year. It was found that Rs 46 crore had come into the accounts of the accused in the earlier case.
Shabir’s brother Moiteen Koya and his son are accused in the case. The investigation team had earlier found that the parallel telephone exchange was being used for crimes. A parallel telephone exchange is also used for kidnappings related to gold smuggling.
