The music industry is deeply saddened by the passing away of Joy Vincent, who was a magical touch on the guitar with two generations of the South Indian film industry. Joy has been the lead guitarist in many ensembles including SP Balasubramaniam, Yesudas, S Janaki, P Sushila, VM Kutty, New Generation Vijay Yesudas, Vidhu Pratap, Sithara, Jotsna and Rimi Tommy.

Having played the guitar for songs in Mammootty and Mohanlal’s super hit films Bhutakannadi, Aaram Tampuran and Sukumaran starrer Dheera in the eighties, Joy is well-known in the music world inside and outside the country and has a large following.

He was a teacher in several music schools in Kozhikode and a regular guitarist for the orchestras of famous musicians visiting the city.

Joy Vincent’s first school was his own home and his teachers were his brothers, who learned by watching and listening to his elder brothers, guitarists David Babu and Paul Vijayan. Joy, a B-high grade artiste of Aakashvani who has innumerable disciples including in foreign countries, was undergoing treatment for liver disease for a long time. Farooq passed away on Sunday evening at his house near Cheruvannur TP Road.
