HEARING REPORT – During two days of interrogation, the man nicknamed the “Madoff of Maine-et-Loire” swore that he never wanted to create a scam with the pharaonic slate of 16 million euros.
Quilted vest, velvet pants, tartan jacket: since Monday, unusual visitors have occupied the benches of the 32nd correctional chamber in Paris. They have strong words, are familiar with the mysteries of justice and are not impressed by the decorum of a courtroom. One subject, on the other hand, arouses latent unease: money. The question can be discussed between them, away from prying eyes. But never in public. Yet it is their fortune that is dissected in front of journalists. Or rather what’s left of it. All were defrauded by the man presented as the Madoff of Maine-et-Loire. Character halfway between a dandy from a good family and a currency charlatan. Guillain Méjane is on trial with his associate, Gaëtan Odart de Rilly d’Oysonville for having cheated around sixty people from the Angevin elite through an investment fund which allowed them, in the process, to lead the life of a king. The fund quickly collapsed and the money, 16 million euros, has since disappeared.
