The LVŽS Council calls Mr. Landsberg’s warnings about national security immature

“G. Landsbergis publicly doubts the benefits of Lithuania’s membership in NATO, NATO’s commitments to Lithuania, discredits the country’s national security and defense policy, which was agreed upon by the political forces working in the Seimas position and in the opposition as early as 2022, and discredits the soldiers deployed by other countries to Lithuania. The LVŽS council calls such statements by G. Landsbergis as immature, lacking in political leadership, echoing the rhetoric of Russian propagandists and posing a threat to Lithuania’s national security,” states the statement released by the party.

The LVŽS council appealed to the representatives of the ruling majority and asked them to “stop manipulating the consciousness, health and fears of the Lithuanian population and to take up the urgent work that the ruling party must do after taking decisions beneficial to Lithuania at the NATO summit, as well as those named in the national party agreement on defense”. .

“We also separately appeal to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielias Landsbergis, to pay special attention to relations with NATO allies, Lithuania’s neighbors Poland, Latvia and Estonia, and not to worsen relations with Germany, which will deploy its troops in Lithuania. We urge you to stop destroying the trust of the country’s people, businesses, domestic and foreign investors in Lithuania with your irresponsible statements,” said LVŽS chairman Ramūnas Karbauskis.

G. Landsbergis urged this week not to give in to apathy thinking that Lithuania will be defended by the fifth article of NATO and urged to think about strategic changes in its defense.

According to him, the support given to Ukraine may not be enough to win against Russia and it may rebuild its forces for a new offensive in a few years.
