Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok decided yesterday to hand over the case to the Investigative Review Committee after hearing face-to-face the results of the investigation into the Dior bag case of First Lady Kim Kun-hee.

The investigation was conducted faithfully, but as this was a highly contentious case it was decided to seek the judgment of outside experts.

Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok convened an investigative review committee.

The plan will be reviewed by outside experts before Ms Kim’s Dior bag is finally disposed of.

It had only been a day since I learned of the investigation team’s verdict of innocence.

The Supreme Prosecutor’s Office said Attorney General Lee “decided to improve fairness through the Investigative Review Committee and conclude the matter to prevent further controversy.”

Attorney General Lee was briefed on the findings of the Central District Prosecutor’s Office, and the evaluation of evidence and legal interpretation were carried out faithfully, but he explained that he made this choice because it was an attractive case. and the ongoing waste controversy.

Controversy over preferential treatment arose when it emerged that prosecutors returned Ms. King’s cellphone during the investigation and interrogated Ms. King inside the Secret Service annex.

Others pointed out that the president’s statement that there were “no exceptions, preferences, or sanctuaries” became hollow with the acquittal and was inconsistent with public legal sentiment.

President Lee’s choice seems to be aware of this criticism.

Pastor Choi Jae-young, who gave Ms. Kim a Dior bag, also said she could not accept the prosecution’s conclusion of innocence.

“KakaoTalk has evidence and it has been confirmed by records and documents…I cannot understand if this is a request or what type of request it is.”

The Investigation Review Committee consists of 15 members selected by lot from among 150 members who are experts from the academic and legal fields.

Committee members will decide whether the prosecution’s findings are justified and whether further investigation is warranted.

In January this year, Attorney General Lee convened an investigative committee ex officio to discuss whether to prosecute Kim Kwang-ho, the former director of the Seoul Police Agency, for the Itaewon disaster.

The original opinion of the investigation team not to prosecute was overturned.

It took 15 days from summons to prosecution.

The outcome of Mrs. Kim’s disposition is expected to be announced in the middle of next month, just before President Lee Myung-bak retires.

The investigative team is under no obligation to follow the conclusions of the Investigative Review Board.

However, prosecutors could face strong criticism again if experts express negative views on Ms. King’s findings.
