The lowest temperature is 30.1 degrees? An unusual tropical night, what is the cause of nocturnal torrential rain?

Today, the lowest temperature in the morning in Gangneung, Gangwon-do was 30.1 degrees.

If the temperature does not drop below 25 degrees overnight, it is said to be a tropical night, so Gangneung was a tropical night.

However, this is not a typical tropical night, and there have been only two cases of over 30 degrees so far, in Seoul and Gangneung, in August.

But now it’s June.

This is the first time in Korea.

What the heck, reporter Hyun In-ah covered the cause.

The lowest temperature in Gangneung today recorded 30.1 degrees.

Sweat drips down your neck just by walking, and it’s difficult to go out on the street without a fan or hand fan.

“Even if it’s scary, what should I do if I sleep with the screen door open?”

“(Even if it’s very hot) There is no other way but to overcome it.”

Since the meteorological observations began in 1904, it is the first time in the country that a tropical night over 30 degrees has appeared in June.

The causes of record tropical nights are mainly analyzed in three ways.

First, the southern North Pacific high pressure and the northern low pressure rotated clockwise and counterclockwise, respectively, pumping up hot subtropical air like a pump.

A hot wind blew at night like a hot air fan.

However, this craze wasn’t just hot.

As the west and east seas heated up, more moisture was generated, and this moisture was carried in by the wind.

“It creates a passageway for water vapor that flows into Korea through the south wind, which is very unusual.”

Here, the temperature rose even more as the wind crossed the Taebaek Mountains and the temperature rose.

This inflow of heat and water vapor has a high risk of intensifying the power of not only tropical nights but also heavy rains.

“If you add the amount of water vapor plus the low pressure, you can get a lot of precipitation.”

The risk of heavy rain is greater at night when water vapor transport increases.

As the three meteorological conditions combine, extreme tropical nights are expected in the southern and eastern coasts tonight as well, and the threat of torrential rains in central regions such as Seoul will continue.
