And the Regional Emergency Service (HRS) said in a statement that the American plane “Osprey” was “lost at 18:26 (17:26 GMT) south of Bodø” in northern Norway in bad weather.
Its four-member crew was participating in the “Cold Response” military maneuvers, accompanied by regarding 30,000 soldiers from NATO countries, in addition to Sweden and Finland.
The statement said that the rescue personnel, while searching from the air, saw signs of the plane’s presence in the area where it was lost, but the weather was very bad, which prevented them from landing.
“We are not on the grounds of the same location, so we don’t know anything regarding the four people who were on board,” emergency services spokesman Jan Askel Severinsen told NRS television.
For its part, the US military confirmed that the Marine Corps plane had an accident during “a training in Norway as part of the 2022 Cold Response exercise.”
“The cause of the accident is under investigation, and additional details will be provided as they become available,” spokesman Jim Stinger said.
The “Cold Response” 2022 maneuvers aim to test Norway’s management of allied reinforcements on its soil in the event that the NATO joint defense clause is activated.
