Orlando Bloom doesn’t think he’ll be returning as Legolas in the upcoming ‘Lord of the Rings’ series on Amazon. But that doesn’t mean that the elf mightn’t have an appearance in it…
The highly anticipated Amazon series The Lord of the Rings will be set in the Second Age of Middle-earth – long before the events of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. But since elves are known to be ancient and immortal, it seems possible that at least characters like Galadriel or Elrond will make an appearance. Orlando Bloom has now brought another character into play during the promotional tour for his fantasy series “Carnival Row” – his protégé, the archer Legolas.
Legolas in the Amazon series?
While Bloom sees no way of returning as Legolas himself, he might very well imagine another actor in the role: “I like to think of myself as eternally young, but I don’t know how I might fit into that world. For the role of Legolas, they definitely have a 19-year-old who is up for it.”
It’s not entirely clear in the books when Legolas was born exactly, but that doesn’t make a big difference for an elf in the end. Orlando Bloom had portrayed Legolas in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy and was in his mid-20s at the time.
Bloom is also amused that director Peter Jackson predicted on the set of “Lord of the Rings” a good 20 years ago (!) that the story might probably be filmed once more in the not too distant future. “I said it will never happen”remembers Bloom, who was only partly wrong – following all, the series doesn’t tell the same story as the films and is therefore not a remake.
Australian Markella Kavenagh was recently announced as the series’ debut actress, as was the presentation of the creative team on the project, which is brimming with big names. But will there also be a reunion with Legolas?
The Lord of the Rings is expected to launch on Amazon in 2021.
