Good games take a while to make. It’s a simple, and sometimes annoying, fact, but in recent years we’ve learned to deal with lag and know that, at least now, games take regarding 5 years to sit in the oven.
However, Dragon’s Dogma 2 director Hideaki Isuno apologized saying it took over a decade to get a sequel. In the latest issue of Play magazine (thanks GamesRadar), he talked regarding his initial plans for the sequel and how it would come out faster.
“I really wanted to make a sequel as soon as[the original game]came out, and I’m sorry to make everyone wait so long,” He said. “I’m delighted to see so many fans appreciate the quality of the game and support it for so many years. Having fans support the game – both internally and externally at Capcom – definitely helps bring the project to fruition.
The team has been doing a great job over the past decade or so, especially when it comes to coming up with silly ideas to implement in games. “We had multi-day meetings where the team came up with ideas for things that might happen in the game, and the most interesting ideas were always the ones people came up with when our work was keeping us up at night.” Itsuno continued. “When we actually went to implement these ideas, we put aside the question of ‘Can we really put something this stupid into the game?’ and tried to put as much of it in as we might.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on March 22, 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
