The long summer of politics between meetings and international summits – il Giornale

Politics does not go on vacation. The party season, at the end of summer, is the right time for those who need to calibrate their political action, for adjustments and, above all, for establishing new alliances. From the limelight of the Rimini Meeting to the Festa dell’Unità, political leaders travel the length and breadth of the country, taking every opportunity to promote their action.

Pierluigi Bersani, for example, took advantage of the stage in Reggio Emilia where the national Unity festival is underway to reel off the latest updates on the legal case that pits him against General Roberto Vannacci. He chose a friendly square, the most malicious whisper, to feel consoled and supported. And it is precisely the Reggio square that is anxiously awaiting Elly Schlein (pictured) who should close the event on September 8. In the meantime, the debate is raging: with or without Renzi, for the construction of a winning broad field? While former governors now MEPs Bonaccini and Zingaretti will talk about Europe, Walter Veltroni will remember the figure of Enrico Berlinguer and, on the same day, September 3, Alessandro Sallusti will moderate a debate on the reform of justice in which Deborah Serracchiani and the president of the ANM Giuseppe Santalucia are invited to speak.

Even more institutional commitments, such as the G7 Parliaments, fall at the end of the summer. The presidency of the event, this year, is Italian. Lorenzo Fontana (pictured) has chosen Verona as the setting (from 5 to 7 September). A speech by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella is scheduled for the opening ceremony. The following day Fontana will open the proceedings in the council chamber of Palazzo del Podestà. After an inaugural greeting in streaming by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, the proceedings will begin with speeches by the presidents of the European Parliament (Roberta Metsola) and the Ukrainian Parliament (Ruslan Stefanuk). Among the topics on the agenda: access to strategic resources, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. With a focus on Africa and the Mediterranean.

A precious laboratory of ideas is activated today in Ceglie Messapica, chosen by Affari Italiani for its now traditional end-of-summer kermesse where it hosts economists, intellectuals, political figures and government officials to talk about the new challenges of the economy and society. “And now? What’s happening…? From Puglia to the South, from Italy to Europe (and beyond). Dreams and projects of a late summer night”. This is the title of the three-day event. Under the guidance of the director of Affaritaliani.it, Angelo Maria Perrino, the ministers Urso, Musumeci, Fitto, Salvini and Tajani will alternate on the stage in Ceglie Messapica, among others. With them, parliamentarians, entrepreneurs and the president of the Region Michele Emiliano. The presence of Prime Minister Meloni, however, is yet to be confirmed.

The reforms that the Meloni cabinet is carrying forward are instead at the center of the Fatto quotidiano party, scheduled in Rome (Casa del Jazz) from September 6 to 8. Among the party leaders, the only one invited to speak is Giuseppe Conte.

The final day features a debate on fascism (with Flavia Perina and Tomaso Montanari) and one on the new frontiers of journalism, with the participation of Vittorio Feltri, Massimo Fini, Giovanni Valentini and Antonio Padellaro as host.
