The Logra Cup, more than a sailing event

With the participation of more than 200 competitors, the Logra Cup 2024 “We are the wind” will be held from July 31 to August 4.

Considered one of the most important sailing events in southeastern Mexico, the 23rd edition of the cup will take place at the Marina Silcer facilities, located on the road to Telchac Puerto.

The details of the activity, which aims to promote sailing, were announced at a press conference held by Gerardo Díaz Roche, president of the Cup, who stressed that since its foundation the Cup has had the objective of teaching children to sail.

“The main objective is to have fun and create a breeding ground for sailors,” said Díaz Roche, adding that throughout the history of the Logra Cup, they have taught more than a thousand people to sail, mostly children.

Accompanied by Pedro Pablo Silveira Cervera, director of Marina Silcer, and Patricia Álvarez, coach of the Yucatan sailing team, Díaz Roche said that in this edition, like the previous ones, competitors from Yucatán, other parts of Mexico and also from several nations will participate.

Díaz Roche said that the Cup, more than a competition, is an event that celebrates the family, and the attendees supported this. This year it will have the categories Hobie Wave, Optimist, Laser, Hobie Cat 16 and yachts.

At the press conference, which took place at the Prestige Motors-Mercedes Benz facilities, Díaz Roche said that the Cup is open to the general public, as the intention, he stressed, is to teach people how to sail rather than compete.

He pointed out that many of the children who learned to sail in the regatta are now in groups that meet every summer to sail.

The opening will be on July 31 at 6 pm with the keynote lecture “Reward for perseverance”, which will be given by the experienced Venezuelan sailor Yamil Saba “Milo”, representative of his country in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, and winner of several Central American, Pan American and world titles.

Following the conference, the traditional “Wind Festival” will mark the start of the competition, in which all participants and their families will be honoured.
