The ballet “La Strada” is based on this film classic by F. Fellini. German choreographer Marco Goecke recreated the narrative of the famous film in a modern dance performance of the same name.
F. Fellini is one of the biggest names in Italian cinema, a director who has created a unique style. Circus motifs often appeared in his works, and the film “Kelias”, which tells about traveling circus artists and their tragic fate, is no exception. Gelzomina is a girl who is sold by her mother to the cruel and harsh artist Zampano. This one taught the girl to play the drum and the trumpet, so from now on they appear to the audience as two. No matter how painful life events are, Gelzomina does not give up, remains herself and does not renounce her values.
The author of the ballet music is the famous composer Nino Rota. He was a long-time composer of the music for F. Fellini’s films, but he became even more famous for Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary film “The Godfather”. N. Rota won an Oscar for the music track for the second part of “The Godfather”.
After the premiere of Fellini’s “The Road” in 1966, the composer adapted the film’s soundtrack for the ballet scene. That is why the LNOBT ballet artists wanted to see the movie masterpiece with their own eyes and at the same time get inspiration for the upcoming premiere.
The rehearsals of the ballet “La Strada” in the theater are currently being led by assistant choreographers Ludovico Pace and Patrick Teschner. The choreographer M. Goecke himself will join them in the last stage of preparation for the premiere.
Ballet fans will be able to watch La Strada performances on the LNOBT stage from September 13 to 21.
