And as they say: “• PASOK-KINAL made the previous president president.
• SYRIZA does not want to make the previous president president, because it had precedents with him.
• The United States is considering making a president the predecessor of the previous president with whom they also have precedents.
• We, whether we have precedents with you, fellow amateurs, or not, await your candidacy for president…

Interview with Yiannis Georgakakis, Festival Coordinator of the 17th Momos
Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today, Yiannis! The 17th Momos Festival is just around the corner, taking place on February 7th, 8th, and 9th. Can you tell us a bit about the festival’s theme and its significance?
Yiannis Georgakakis: Thank you for having me! The Momos Festival is a celebration of satire and creativity, allowing amateur theatrical groups to showcase their works in a competitive environment. This year, we’re highlighting the importance of laughter and satire, especially in challenging times. The festival not only entertains but also encourages critical thinking through humor.
Interviewer: That sounds fascinating! It seems like there’s a strong emphasis on amateur participation. What can you tell us about the application process for teams wishing to present their work?
Yiannis Georgakakis: Absolutely! Amateur groups, both in Greece and abroad, are invited to submit their satirical performances. To apply, they need to send a video of their act, along with a detailed file about their group. This includes contact information, a brief history, and the entire script of the performance. We are looking for originality and creativity in their submissions, with a maximum video length of 12 minutes. We want the performances to showcase the unique voices of these amateur actors.
Interviewer: Are there any specific guidelines for the types of performances that can be submitted?
Yiannis Georgakakis: Yes, we encourage participants to be original or to perform well-known satirical pieces. We want to see interpretations that reflect the current cultural climate and the social issues that matter to young creators today. And don’t forget, while being competitive, this festival is also about fun and community!
Interviewer: I noticed that there’s a rigorous selection process involving a committee and awards. Can you elaborate on this?
Yiannis Georgakakis: Certainly! The Selection Committee will evaluate all submissions and announce the top ten performances by January 19, 2025. The finalists will perform live in front of an audience on February 8. In addition to audience voting, a jury will award prizes in various categories such as Original Text and Direction. It’s a fantastic opportunity for new artists to gain recognition in the theater community.
Interviewer: And how does the audience get involved in this festival?
Yiannis Georgakakis: The audience plays a crucial role! After the performances, they will have the chance to vote for their favorite acts for the Audience Awards. This element really brings everyone together and celebrates the enthusiasm of all participants. However, local teams making it to the finals won’t be eligible for this award to ensure fairness.
Interviewer: It sounds like the Momos Festival will be a fantastic event for participants and audiences alike. where can teams and interested attendees find more information?
Yiannis Georgakakis: They can contact us via the emails provided in our announcement. Additionally, all details are available on the Patrinos Carnival website. We are eager to see what innovative and humorous performances participants will bring to this year’s festival!
Interviewer: Thank you, Yiannis! We can’t wait to see the creativity in action at the Momos Festival. Best of luck with the event!
Yiannis Georgakakis: Thank you! We’re looking forward to an exciting and memorable festival!
On Committee, composed of representatives from various organizations along with theater professionals, will judge the submissions. They will select the top 10 performances to compete live on February 8th. Awards will be presented for various categories including best original text, direction, and audience choice. The festival fosters a spirit of friendly competition while celebrating the creativity of amateur performers.
Interviewer: That sounds like a fantastic opportunity for amateur groups! How has the response been so far regarding participation?
Yiannis Georgakakis: The response has been very encouraging! We’ve seen a diverse range of applicants showing interest in participating from both local and international groups. The more unique perspectives we can showcase, the richer the festival becomes, and I believe that we will witness an impressive display of talent this year.
Interviewer: As the festival coordinator, what do you hope attendees take away from the Momos Festival?
Yiannis Georgakakis: My hope is that attendees leave with a renewed sense of joy and laughter, and that they recognize the power of satire to reflect reality and provoke thought. It’s an opportunity for the community to come together, celebrate creativity, and perhaps even engage in some meaningful discussions sparked by the performances. Ultimately, it’s all about having a good time while appreciating the art of theater.
Interviewer: Thank you for your insights, Yiannis! We look forward to an exciting Momos Festival next February.
Yiannis Georgakakis: Thank you! It’s going to be an unforgettable experience, and we can’t wait to see everyone there!
