Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN)—In its 36th edition, Forbes magazine released its ranking of Arab billionaires for 2022. The list of the Arab billionaires remains largely similar to the ranking issued in 2021. This year, it found 21 Arab billionaires across the world. The world compared to 22 billionaires in 2021. The group collectively saw a partial decline in its total wealth to $52.9 billion in 2022, compared to $53.4 billion. A year ago, the list included Emirati businessman Majid Al Futtaim, who passed away in December 2021, and is the only one who was not on the 2022 list.
According to the rating, Nassef Sawiris of Egypt remains the richest Arab in the world, with a net worth of $7.7 billion – $600 million less than last year, making him the biggest loser among Arab billionaires this year. According to Forbes, this is mainly due to the drop in the share price of the sportswear company Adidas, in which Sawiris owns a 6% stake.
On the other hand, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and his brother Taha achieved the highest gains this year, following both of them witnessed an increase in their wealth by $700 million, and their net worth amounted to $3.2 billion.
