The light rail is another step closer to Åsane

The light rail is another step closer to Åsane

A proposal from Ap, SV, MDG and Venstre finally received support from 14 out of 17 representatives when the matter was voted on in the county committee on Wednesday. In the city council, a majority with the Conservatives in the lead agree on an agreement that was made known on Tuesday.

There are some differences between the two options, but both involve planning a loop around the Town Hall, a tunnel from Bergen Cathedral School, an underground stop in the area around Sverresborg and a day solution in Sjøgaten in Sandviken, writes Bergens Tidende.

County director Rune Haugsdal acknowledges the disagreement between the majority in the city council and the county council, but believes it is not so great that it threatens further work.

He points out that both Bergen and Vestland have agreed to build a light rail to Åsane – with a tunnel solution. Furthermore, he believes that all parties agree to start the regulatory work for the tunnel solution, and that one should plan and project in parallel while regulating the tunnel solution. It means progress in the work.

– We agree on that, and that is the core of the compromise proposal, says Haugsdal to BT.

It is still unknown how expensive and technically difficult a tunnel can be, and how it will all be financed.
