In a private ceremony that was attended by family and closest friends, the funeral of Enilce López Romero, the former chance businesswoman known as ‘La Gata’, took place. López Romero died on Saturday night at the Costa clinic, in Barranquilla. The funeral services were held at the Jardines de la Eternidad cemetery, on the way to Puerto, around 4 pm on Sunday.

An attendee at the funeral responded: “If I cried for Diomedes Díaz, why not her, who was the queen of chance,” when asked if he was related to Enilce López. It is important to note that López was captured in early 2006 for money laundering and was initially in Bogotá’s El Buen Pastor prison for nine months.

In that prison, the former chance businesswoman began to experience feeding problems and requested to be transferred to a prison in Santa Marta. Alias ​​’La Gata’ obtained her freedom in 2008, but in January 2011 the Superior Court of Bogotá sentenced her to 38 years in prison for her participation in the murder of Amaury Fabián Ochoa Torres in the municipality of Carmen de Bolívar. in June 2000.

The sentence was 32 years in prison, the process that accompanied her until the day she died. Enilce López defended herself repeatedly, but the Prosecutor’s Office managed to demonstrate, at trial, her responsibility in the homicide that made her a convicted person.

Alias ​​La Gata suffered, following her file was uncovered, a series of health problems that kept her in different clinics. On several occasions, complaints were made regarding her participation in politics from the detention spaces that she had, in clinics or the house arrest that she had following the request made by the defense.

Enilce López requested on several occasions to be heard by the Special Peace Justice (JEP), but following attempts it was not possible; Hence, her lawyer, Pablo Bustos, filed some claims before that jurisdiction following warning that many “truths” were now buried with the death of La Gata.
