The municipal college of Liège announced it this Friday: the alderman Pierre Stassart has resigned.
Indeed, while many politicians, the socialist mayor Willy Demeyer himself, had been calling for his resignation since the end of December, the socialist alderman had still not submitted his resignation at this stage… creating a stir in Liège. This Friday, however, the College announced that it had received the resignation of the person concerned. Mail “in which he announces that he is presenting his resignation as Alderman of the City of Liège”.
As indicated by the college and as required by the code of local democracy, this resignation “will be subject to the acceptance of the Municipal Council at its next meeting, on Monday, March 7. It will be effective following this acceptance. An amendment to the majority pact will be proposed to this same Municipal Council in order to designate the new Alderman. The College will then meet to fix the distribution of the attributions”.
As a reminder, on December 14, Pierre Stassart was sentenced to a one-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of 16,000 euros, half suspended for having, in 2016, modified the procedures during the engagement in a High School of the City of his companion at the time, a 48-year-old lady. However, he appealed this decision.
