The employee who had worked for Lidl for 19 years was dismissed in mid-March. She would have eaten an expired biscuit following having a faintness in the reserve of the store of Legs. The management then did not take the circumstances into account, considering the facts as serious misconduct. She then did not reconsider her decision, despite a medical certificate submitted by the worker.
On Monday, following discussions involving the unions, a new agreement was finally reached between management and the worker. In addition, the serious fault was lifted.
“The discussions were able to lead to an agreement that satisfies all parties,” commented Julien Wathieu, spokesman for Lidl in Belgium. “However, the exact content of our agreement will not be disclosed for reasons of confidentiality.”
“At the start of the day, there was a question of serious misconduct, which was disputed”, reacted Thomas Lesire, permanent secretary Setca. “The agreement is what it is, I do not wish to comment on it but it is important to have raised this point.”
“We still want the reinstatement of the worker given the context. However, if there has been an agreement between the parties, we respect it,” he concluded.
