The proportion of employees with a company car is still increasing in Belgium, according to a study by Securex. But is experiencing a decline in the capital.
The share of workers on permanent contracts with a company car has increased by 7% between early 2019 and mid-2022, going from 23.4% to 25%, according to the results of a survey by human resources specialist Securex published on Wednesday. The Flanders (+10.7%) and the Wallonia (+10.9%) experienced the largest increases, reaching a respective level of 27.3% and 20.4%. Brussels, on the other hand, saw a decline of 10.5%, for a share of 22.4%. Of all these cars, 2.5% are electric.
From 2026, only “zero emission” type company cars will still be 100% tax deductible for companiesrecalls Securex, who wanted to examine the evolution of the car fleet of companies.
Workers with a fixed-term contract were not included in the study because they represent only 0.4% of the total fleet of company cars in Belgium, specifies the HR specialist.
The gap is widening
At the beginning of 2019, the share of workers with a company car in Flanders (24.6%) and Brussels (25%) was still the same. However, since the third quarter of 2019, this share has been higher in the north of the country than in the capital, we note. This difference has continued to increase since then, reaching 27.3% in Flanders once morest 22.4% in Brussels in the middle of this year.
A phenomenon that is partly due to increased use of alternative means of transport and shared mobility in Brusselsaccording to Securex, for whom there are also dissuasive factors, such as congested arteries and traffic plans.
3,8%
The Brussels-Capital Region is in the lead for electric company cars with 3.8%, followed by Flanders (2.5%) and Wallonia (1.6%).
Brussels loves electric
At the end of last June, the proportion of company cars with conventional thermal engines had also fallen by 9% to reach 89.1%, once morest 97.9% at the start of 2019. The proportion of hybrid cars in the car fleet of the companies was, she, four times higher at the end of June this year than at the beginning of 2019 and reached 8.4%. The Region of Brussels-Capital is in the lead for electric company cars with 3.8%, followed by Flanders (2.5%) and Wallonia (1.6%).
Note, finally, that these are the small enterprises which obtain the best results in terms of greening their vehicle fleet, ahead of SMEs and large companies.
