Wait, don’t all laptops fold? Not like this…
Once foldable screens started gaining traction in the smartphone world, it was inevitable that laptops wouldn’t be too far behind. Lenovo tested the idea with the ThinkPad X1 Fold in 2020, and now it’s back. The new second-gen version slimmed down but found more space for a bigger screen, putting it on par with 16-inch laptops when unfolded but slimmer than a 13-inch ultraportable when folded .
It’s not the biggest folding-screen laptop we’ve seen – it will be the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold OLED, which admittedly hasn’t hit retail yet following its first cover at CES in January – but the 16.3 inch T1 Fold is still important. The screen is 22% larger than the outgoing model, thanks to screen bezels that are less than 10mm thick on all sides.
Naturally, it’s an OLED panel (trying to bend an LCD is a recipe for disaster) with a resolution of 2560×2024 and a peak brightness of 600 nits. This means it will do justice to Dolby Vision content. It also works well with Wacom digital pens for note taking and sketching.
You can use it the classic way, with a 12-inch main screen and an on-screen keyboard on the lower half, or fold out the screen to landscape format and use Lenovo’s optional Bluetooth keyboard to get some serious work done. . There’s room to dock the screen there, or you can use it separately – in portrait mode too.

Considering it weighs 1.28kg you probably won’t be using it one-handed, but the 25% thinner chassis means it measures 17.4mm when folded and 8.6mm when folded. It’s unfolded – much thinner than traditional laptop alternatives. Lenovo had to come up with an all-new hinge design to achieve this, along with folding graphite sheets to help keep the internals cool.
This includes a choice of ultra-low-voltage 12th Gen Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, each with Iris Xe graphics, up to 1TB of SSD storage and up to 32GB of RAM to keep Windows 11 running under harsh conditions. optimal.
There’s still room on the sides for two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a USB-C, plus a nanoSIM card tray for adding LTE connectivity. Lenovo also tucked in three Dolby Atmos-approved speakers, two of which are always-on for stereo sound no matter which way you hold it.
It will first land in the United States, starting in November. Expect pricing to start at around $2499.
