Just three weeks after its release, Tear of Kingdoms has become the third best-selling game of the year in Europe, behind EA’s FIFA 23 and Warner Bros.’ Hogwarts Inheritance. It’s worth noting that Nintendo doesn’t share digital download data with Leaderboard, while digital sales data from EA and Warner Bros. is included. If you only look at physical retail, “Tears of the Kingdom” is already the number one game of the year in the European market.

The second-ranked “Hogwarts Inheritance” saw a sales increase of 321% month-on-month due to the release of PS4 and Xbox One versions. In May, 71.5% of the game’s sales came from PS4, and 11.7% came from Xbox One. The rest are on current generation systems and PCs.

Driven by the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the Nintendo Switch surpassed the PS5 in May to once again become the number one selling game console in Europe. Switch sales across Europe are up more than 39% compared to last May. Although the PS5 came in second, it still sold strongly across Europe, with PS5 sales up 81% compared to May 2022. The Xbox Series X|S came in third, with sales down 16% from last May.

In peripherals and peripheral products, 1.3 million accessories and toys were sold in Europe last month, up 30 percent year-on-year. The PS5 DualSense remains number one, ahead of the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. Sales of Switch controllers jumped 530% after the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of Kingdoms, and a special edition Zelda-themed Pro controller sold out globally last month. Additionally, the Tears of Kingdoms Amiibo released alongside the game was the 5th best-selling peripheral in Europe for the month. The Nintendo Switch OLED carrying case also came in at No. 10 following the release of the Zelda version.
