From September 15 to 17, the city of Angoulême hosts the 51st edition of the legendary Circuit des Remparts. Tributes, races, competitions, exhibitions… A rich program awaits.

Born in 1939, the Circuit des remparts d’Angoulême continues to reinvent itself and innovate. In this 51st edition, new stages, exceptional gatherings and unique exhibitions are promised. The event fits perfectly into the context of the heritage days which will take place over the same weekend from September 15 to 17.

The themes of this new edition are numerous: the centenary of the MG brand, the fiftieth anniversary of the production of the Lancia Stratos and the Ballot brand, founded by the Angoumois industrialist Ernest Ballot. To highlight these three legends, the organizers of this legendary race have brought together rare vehicles which will compete, be exhibited in the city or participate in elegance and state competitions.

Women in the spotlight

Classified by age and category, each year the Circuit des Remparts presents cars that tell the story of a century of sports motoring. The tests, races and demonstrations will take place on September 17 on the historic circuit, on six different grids. For the celebrations of the centenary of MG, the event brought together an exceptional line-up, unprecedented in France, since it will notably present five K3s, two Type Cs, a Leonidas and two Bellevues, without forgetting the MG R Type of Christian Berthold, a unique car in the world since only one example has survived. Four rallies will start on September 16, with different routes adapted to the age of the vehicles entered: Doyennes (reserved for cars before 1914), Légendes (cars until 1959), International de Charente (the cars since 1960) and the Ernest Ballot rally, which for the first time will crisscross the Charente roads.

In parallel with the competition, the Circuit des remparts has chosen to honor all the “fighters”, these women who stand out in the automotive world, which is still very masculine. Via drivers, like Karine Blanchard, who will be on the track, but not only that. The organization wanted to create an exhibition retracing the fight of women in the racing world. “It is with great emotion and admiration that I (re)discovered certain photo archives which remind me how all these women pilots were, whatever their era, pioneers, volunteers and talented”, confides Sylvie Herault, member of the circuit des remparts association. It is also a completely new and 100% female jury which will evaluate the cars entered in the elegance competition and their crews.
