To mark the 30th anniversary of “Pass-me the binoculars”, Matthieu Fournier found the time for a special episode with the emblematic faces of the show, Benoît Aymon, Manuella Maury and Virginie Brawand, at the place of their first presentation, paying tribute to this show which left its mark on minds and times.
The television adventure of Passe-moi les Binoculars, “PaJu” for short, began on the picturesque banks of the Doubs (JU) on October 27, 1993. This is where Matthieu Fournier, its current presenter, arranged to meet you to Benoît Aymon, co-founder of the show and presenter until 2011, to dive back into the past.
At the time of its creation, “PaJu” had a different structure than what we know today. Each episode focused on specific themes, with Benoît Aymon and Pierre-Pascal Rossi (since deceased) playing the main roles. They skillfully mixed the presentations with fictional scenes, giving each episode a sometimes offbeat tone, which might seem hardly politically correct today.

The “sensitive portraits” of Manuella Maury
To discuss the second decade, Matthieu Fournier then found Manuella Maury in Zermatt (VS), discussing the evolution of the show in the 2000s.
The opportunity to also talk with her regarding the place of women in “Paju”. The journalist notably returned to her meeting in a report in 2010 in Les Clés (VD) with two blacksmith sisters, when they were teenagers.

“The influence of Manuella Maury in her way of approaching people and collecting their testimony is profound. She marked a turning point: the reports gained in depth and the “sensitive portraits” of the host became the trademark of the show”, underlines Matthieu Fournier.
Our characters open up a lot. We are sometimes the first people they dare to talk to regarding something. Me, ultimately, I forget that I’m doing television when I’m with them, we share, we exchange, we get to know each other
Virginie Brawand, presenter of Passe-moi les Binoculars from 2011 to 2018
Matthieu Fournier then continued this retrospective by meeting Virginie Brawand, who marked the third decade of “PaJu”, on the banks of Lac Noir (FR), the place of her first steps on the air in 2011.
“Our characters open up a lot. We are sometimes the first people they dare to talk to regarding something. In the end, I forget that I’m making television when I’m with them, we share, we exchange, we learn to know”, testifies Virginie Brawand.

A breath of youth for the new season
As for the new season of “PaJu”, it will resolutely reflect its times. Matthieu Fournier announces that it will feature talented thirty-somethings.
These new faces, whether they are athletes, artisans or working in unusual professions, embody the new generation which will undoubtedly influence the future of “Pass-me-the-binoculars”.
