The deceased is the father of the artist Reham Abdel Ghafour, and he previously held the position of head of the Acting Professions Syndicate from 2011 to 2015.

Abdel Ghafour was born in 1942 in the city of Mahalla al-Kubra. He graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema in 1963, where he studied under director Mohamed Karim, the first dean of the institute.

He worked for a short period as a teaching assistant at the Film Institute before leaving the academic field and joining the National Theater, where he stood on stage in front of acting giants in Egypt such as Hassan Al-Baroudi, Shafiq Nour El-Din, Abdel Moneim Ibrahim, Tawfiq Al-Daqn, Naima Wasfi, and Samiha Ayoub.

The late artist distinguished himself in television works that constituted the bulk of his artistic credit, including the series “Cairo and the People,” “Zezinia,” and “Jabal al-Halal,” and he participated in the most prominent religious series that were presented in the eighties and nineties, such as “Al-Laith Bin Saad.” , “Imam Al-Nasa’i,” and “Harun Al-Rashid.”

Abdel Ghafour also presented dozens of radio series, television evenings, and some cinematic films, including “The Fun Squad,” “The Voice of Love,” “The Back Streets,” and “The Message.”

The National Theater Festival honored him in its fourteenth session in 2021, and he won the State Appreciation Award in the Arts in 2015.
